This is a rare and interesting example of a Pattern 1851 shako, complete with decorative chinstrap and lining. When we are fortunate enough to stumble across these 1851 shakos, they are constructed with dark blue wool, never oilcloth leather like this one. It has the same standard P1851 forward slant and rounded tarred leather brim. The chinstrap is retained, another rarity, delicate to touch but is complete and
